To legally operate a motor vehicle in the state of Gujarat, a person must have a valid driving license. A driving license can be obtained by a person who holds a learning license. A learning license in Gujarat is issued by the Gujarat RTO as per the provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988. A learning license issued in Gujarat is valid for a period of 6 months and can be applied for a permanent DL within 30 days or 180 days from the date of issue of the learning license.   • Learning license issued for heavy goods vehicle: This type of LL includes vehicles such as giant trucks and vans used to transport goods.
  • Learning license issued for unshielded motorcycles: This type of LL includes vehicles such as scooters and unshielded mopeds.

Eligibility Criteria for obtaining Learning License in Gujarat

  • To obtain a learning license for a motor vehicle must not exceed an engine capacity of 50cc, a person must be over 16 years of age and must obtain consent from their parent or guardian.
  • To obtain a learning license for a light motor vehicle, a person must be over 18 years of age.
  • To obtain a learning license for a commercial vehicle, a person must be over 20 years of age.
  • A person applying for a learning license must interact with traffic rules and regulations.

Documents required for obtaining a Learner's License in Gujarat

The documents given below have to be submitted to the Gujarat RTO to get a learning license in the state.

  • Age and address certificates such as utility bills, PAN cards, Aadhaar cards, school certificates, birth certificates, etc.

  • The application fee is Rs. 30
  • Learning license test fee Rs. 25

Online application process to get learning license in Gujarat

  • Visit the website of Ministry of Highways and Road Transport- parivahan.gov.in/parivahan
  • Click on Online Services and select Driving License related services.
  • Enter the name of the state-Gujarat
  • Click on the online application and select the learning license
  • Fill the application form and submit it online
  • Upload scanned copies of the above mentioned documents
  • Pay the application fee
  • Book Test Slot for Learning License Test
  • Go to RTO to take test
  • On passing the test, a learning license is sent to the applicant's registered address.

In the state of Gujarat, the Gujarat RTO issues a duplicate learner's license to an applicant whose original learning license has been stolen, lost or damaged. In case of loss of learner's license, the applicant has to lodge an FIR, which he can proceed with the application process.

Procedure for obtaining duplicate learning license in Gujarat

An application for a duplicate learning license in Gujarat can be made online or offline at RTO.
