Tungnath Temple dedicated to Lord Shiva located in Rudraprayag district of Uttarakhand is the highest Shiva temple in the world, which has recently been given the status of National Monument (Tungnath Temple) by the government. Located at an altitude of 3640 meters, Tungnath Temple is one of the Panch Kedars. The Tungnath Temple is believed to have been built by the Pandavas to please Lord Shiva


Tungnath was declared a national monument by the central government in a notification dated 27 March. It is said that the Tungnath temple was built by the Pandavas. After the war of Mahabharata, the Pandavas went to seek forgiveness from Lord Shiva to be absolved of the sin of killing their brothers. In this effort, the Tungnath temple was built by the Pandavas to please Lord Shiva.
